What is it about?

Hi! The Substack „Research Misunderstandings“ is maintained by Georg Weizsäcker, an economics professor at Humboldt-Universität in Berlin, who wrote a book on “Misunderstandings: False Beliefs in Communication”. The book discusses the logic of human conversations, and how these conversations may succeed, or not. It uses insights from game theory, behavioral/experimental economics, social psychology, philosophy of language, and linguistics – each of these scholarly areas has a lot say about human conversations. The book is short, easy to read and downloadable for free. You find more info about it if you click on “The Book” at the top of this page.

The other parts of this Substack have more material on misunderstandings: short videotaped conversations, references to recent academic work, and examples from the “real world” (politics, religion, mythology, …). The content includes contributions from members of the Collaborative Research Center TRR 190, “Rationality and Competition”, funded by the German Research Foundation.
